1,066 JKKK members expected to undergo training in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Some 1,066 Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) members are expected to attend the Village Administration Certificate Program in Sabah for 2018.

Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW) Deputy Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ministry expected to reach the target number of JKKKs from several state districts through three program series.

This target is more than a fifth of the national KKLW target of 5,000 this year that is an increase from the 4,128 trained JKKKs, 345 from Sabah, in 2017.

So far, 221 JKKKs and community leaders from Beaufort, Sipitang and Ranau parliamentary constituencies had been trained in the Sabah Zone third phase second series program for 2018.

“KKLW is of the opinion that the program is very important to the JKKK leaders as it not only provides the knowledge and skills related to rural administrative management but also the government’s acknowledgement of the JKKK institution as an agent for rural transformation,” said Linggi.

“The ministry is confident that with the information and knowledge provided, the JKKK institution would be able to shape the direction of rural development to a more progressive level,” he added at the closing ceremony of the program here yesterday.

Linggi said the ministry also introduced two new training programs, the UniKL rural management diploma and Universiti College Agroscience Malaysia (UCAM) rural development executive diploma program to increase the capacity and professionalism level of JKKKs.

So far he said 70 JKKK leaders had taken up the executive diploma at UCAM in Melaka, which started on February 12 till March 29.

However, he added the program had yet to be run in Sabah and Sarawak.
