Tuaran hosts 1Malaysia Youth City Carnival
TUARAN: The week-long 1Malaysia Youth Cities (1MYC) Carnival kicked off with an 11km run at the district town field here on Saturday.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor flagged off the run on Saturday morning, which was participated by 2,500 people.
The run was then followed by the finals of the Battle of the Bands showcasing five bands in the evening. It was officiated by Tuaran Umno vice-chief Kassim Razali who also displayed his talent by performing with a few of the organising committee members.
Also present were Tuaran Youth Town Club (TYTC) chairman Ghazali Hajiji, Tuaran District Officer Sofian Nair, Tuaran Youth and Sports officer Baxter Datuk Jilan, Tuaran Wanita Umno chief Jamaliah Antalib, Tamparuli community leader Datuk Jahid Jahim and federal Youth and Sports officer Hamzah Tahir.
Tuaran has been given the honour by the federal government to be one of only three towns in the whole of Malaysia to host the 1Malaysia Youth City. The other two are in Sarawak and the Peninsular.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the carnival, there was also a Sentuhan Rakyat sale in Tuaran town. It was organised by the Tuaran office of the federal Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs with the cooperation of Wanita Umno Tuaran. Goods ranging from vegetables and other food items were on sale at competitive prices.
Today Hajiji will officiate PESAT (Pusat Ekonomi Sosial Anak Tuaran) set up jointly by the Tuaran district office, the Youth and Sports Ministry office and the Sabah Town and Regional Planning Department (JPBW). Four old government quarters have been repaired and refurbished to house PESAT.
This will be followed by a Transfomasi Nasional 50 (TN50) townhall session at the Seri Sulaman hall. Both Hajiji and Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau are expected to attend.
