Mosti projects relevant to rural community — Tangau

PEKAN NABALU: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) is relevant to the people, particular­ly rural community.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, said that apart from being the country’s stalwart in science, technology and innovation (STI), Mosti was also deeply involved in uplifting the community livelihood through its Mosti Social Innovation (MSI).

“If there are talks that Mosti is not relevant to the rural people then it is not true,” he said at the handing over of four MSI projects under Nuclear Malaysia, an agency under Mosti to recipients in Sabah at Dewan Pekan Nabalu here on Friday.

Programmes under the MSI that were implemente­d by the various Mosti agencies throughout the country. including Sabah. proved relevant to the rural people.

The four MSI projects by Nuclear Malaysia Agency in Sabah handed over by Tangau are developmen­t of liquid smoke from bamboo in Tambunan; mutant ornamental plants planting package as a new revenue generator for the community in Bundu Tuhan, Ranau; biocomposi­te supporting pillar for the black pepper plantation system in Kampung Lokos; and stevia planting package as a new revenue generator for the community in Tuaran.

Besides Nuclear Malaysia, other Mosti agencies such as the Malaysia Technology Developmen­t Corporatio­n and Malaysian Bioeconomy Developmen­t Corporatio­n among others have also implemente­d its MSI projects in Sabah.

According to Tangau, the objective of the MSI programme among others was to help improve the rural community livelihood through project implementa­tion, services, skill enhancemen­t and innovation products.

“This is also part of Mosti’s efforts to humanise science, technology and innovation with emphasis on elevating the economy of the people and ensuring the nation’s economic growth,” he said.

Also on hand were Kiulu assemblyma­n Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Nuclear Malaysia director general Datuk Dr Mohd Ashhar Khalid, local community leaders and the project recipients.
