TAWAU: Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has commended Tawau member of parliament Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching for doing a good job as a parliamentarian and Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
Musa said she is an outstanding lady and the people were not wrong when voting for her in the last election.
“We were not wrong, you were not wrong in choosing her in the last election,” he said when officiating at the Tawau parliamentary area Chinese New Year open house yesterday at the Sabah Chinese High School yesterday.
In his speech, Musa said he had received many Chinese New Year invitations throughout Sabah and was happy to see not only the Chinese came but also all the other races.
“I can see so many coming together from all ethnics and religions as one big family,” he said.
He said Sabah is well noted for the culture of its people who can celebrate Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Deepavali and Harvest Festival together in peace and harmony.
“We don’t want religious issues, racial issues. We are talking about friendship, about family,” he said.
Musa said due to Sabah’s political stability and developments, the people lived in peace because of the strong unity among the people.
“This shows that Sabah is always in good stead, united, working together among each other,” said Musa who called on the people to reject the opposition who likes to play up racial, religious and ethnic issues.
He added that tourists are also coming from many countries because of the beauty of Sabah and its people.
Because of the beauty of Sabah and the unity of its people, he said, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan and Semporna will be visited by tourists from China, Korea, Australia and Europeans countries.
Musa also disclosed that on his visit to China, a local company there informed him that they intend to send one million tourists to Sabah each year.
This, he said, will create spinoffs and Sabah will need more hotels, resorts and restaurants, which will provide business and employment opportunities.
Also present at the celebration were State Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali, Parti Bersatu Sabah president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, Kalabakan member of parliament Datuk Seri Panglima Ghapur Salleh, Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Hamisa Samat.
