KKCCCI respects SUCCC’s decision on PCCCI
KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) opined that Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) should have waited for the now defunct Putatan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) to conclude its court appeal to overturn its deregistration before admitting the Putatan Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) established by Datuk Tang Lung Sing into SUCCC.
KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui said his chamber respected SUCCC’s recent EGM outcome to accept PCCC as member, even though SUCCC should have waited for the court to hear and decide on PCCCI’s appeal to have its deregistration withdrawn.
“In fact, the legal advisor of SUCCC has also given advice on this matter during the EGM on March 5.”
Twenty out of the then 23 member chambers of SUCCC attended the EGM, while Papar, Tuaran and Kuala Penyu Chinese Chambers of Commerce were absent.
Of the 20 chambers, 19 voted in favour of admitting PCCC as member of SUCCC; only KKCCCI objected.
Lui said his chamber’s stand was to wait for PCCCI’s judicial process to conclude before deciding whether to admit PCCC led by Tang into SUCCC.
He said this in a press conference in response to Tang’s criticism against him for disrespecting the EGM’s outcome and repeated attempts to block PCCC from joining SUCCC.
“Tang’s allegations are an insult to the wisdom of over 1,000 members of KKCCCI.
“We will hold him accountable for challenging the dignity of KKCCCI.”
Lui added that it was normal to have differing views or opinions in an organization.
On Tang’s remark that KKCCCI had simply assigned a salaried employee to attend two SUCCC meetings, Lui said the chamber had written to the parent body on appointing its executive secretary Tan Kar Seng to attend the meetings on October 6 and December 18 last year as representative of the chamber.
“If SUCCC did not accept Tan as our representative, they could have informed us. But they did not do so.”
He also urged SUCCC member chambers to practise mutual respect to ensure harmony.
Also present at the press conference were 26 KKCCCI Executive and Supervisory Committee members, including the deputy president Dato’ Sri Dr Ling Hie Sing, vice president William Chia, Chang Chin Shin, Pang Nyuk Pin and Wong Tau Enn, and secretary general Yee That Hian.
