Stephen Colbert enlists God to persuade Oprah Winfrey to run for president

-

OF COURSE it’s come to this. After Oprah left the door open for a potential presidential bid guided by God himself, someone was bound to get Oprah and the man upstairs in a room together. Stephen Colbert did it on Tuesday.

During a sit-down with the talk-show queen, “The Late Show” host couldn’t resist bringing up the possibility of Oprah running for president — a job the media mogul has repeatedly stated she wants no part of. That is, unless God gives her a sign.

“Have you had any signs at all?” Colbert asked. “Not one,” Oprah answered. “I guess that settles it,” Colbert said. But come on: We know it’s nowhere near settled. And who just so happens to be a big fan of the show and decided to fly by “The Late Show” set? The Almighty himself — or, more specifically, a big-screen, animated projection of God.

‘Run!’

In the ensuing sketch, Oprah (who laughed so hard she almost choked) and the Holy Father go back and forth on whether she should dive into the 2020 race for the White House.

“‘I hear thou seekest a sign,” God tells Oprah before holding up an actual sign that says “Run!” But, of course, she’s still not persuaded.

“Lord, let me just say this to you: It’s not something I’ve ever seen myself doing. It’s not the kind of job that you can have without fully devoting yourself to it 100 per cent.”

“Not really. Have you seen this White House?” God responded.

In the end, Oprah comforts the Lord (and everyone else watching) by reassuring Him that He’ll “find someone that you are just inspired by in 2020.” — WP-Bloomberg
