PH Sarawak launches first phase of manifesto
KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak launched the first phase of its manifesto here yesterday.
State Democratic Action Party chairman Chong Chieng Jen, state Parti Keadilan Rakyat chairman Baru Bian, and state Parti Amanah Negara Sarawak chairman Fidzuan Zaidi jointly launched the manifesto.
Seven points were highlighted to try to capture the votes of Sarawakians during the upcoming parliamentary election.
They include to abolish the goods and services tax (GST), and maintain the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M); stabilise the price of petrol and restore petrol subsidies; return 20 per cent oil and gas royalty as well as 50 per cent tax revenue collected in Sarawak to the state; restore decision rights over education and health to Sarawak; build infrastructure to all longhouses and villages, as well as supply basic amenities such as treated water and electricity to all areas in Sarawak; and provide 100,000 jobs for Sarawak’s unemployed youths.
PH also promised to introduce political and administrative reforms, which will include a maximum of two terms for the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister cannot hold the office of the Minister of Finance, and to ensure the independence of institutions such as the judiciary, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and the Election Commission (EC).
Chong, who is PH Sarawak chairman, said the slogan for the joint campaign is ‘New Deal, New Hope’.
“There are other points as well. But for the moment these are the highlights of our first salvo.
“For a start, we have also launched the new image whereby all our leaders’ Facebook pages, Instagram and blogs in Sarawak will have such an image,” he said.
