DCM slams PH for misleading assurance of 20 pct oil royalty for Sarawak

MIRI: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been slammed for its attempt to mislead Sarawakians with its assurance of giving 20-per cent oil royalty to Sarawak should the opposition pact win the 14th general election (GE14).

According to Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, the 20-per cent royalty is not relevant anymore to Sarawak, which now has full control over the production of its oil and gas.

“To me, the 20-per cent (royalty) is out of date – we have gone beyond it and they (opposition) are still living in the past,

“That is why we formed Petros. We are (now) in full control of our resources,” he told reporters after officiating at the launch of Bumiputera-owned firm Konsortium Bumi Consultants and Services Sdn Bhd in Lutong near here yesterday, where Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi and the company’s managing director Janang Bungsu were present.

Masing, who is also Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister, also reminded the electorate not to be fooled by PH’s election manifesto.

He stressed that with Sarawak having full authority over its oil and gas resources as well as its continental shelf, any oil corporation including Petronas wanting to operate in Sarawak, would have to obtain permit from the state government.

Moreover, Masing said the state government would ensure that Petronas would only appoint Sarawak contractors for its operations in Sarawak.
