Classmate and childhood friend James Ibrahim handed a mock cheque amounting to RM100,000 to the bereaved family of former Assistant State Finance Minister Datuk Wong Ping Chung. James when paying his last respects to his close friend at the Hakka funeral parlour located along Tuaran Road in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday, said the donation was a pledge committed a day before the untimely death of Wong. “The donation will go to Pie Tsen High School Building Fund of which the late Datuk Wong initiated as a measure to provide quality education to the young people of Kudat ... it’s a noble project of which I fully supported,” James said. Wong, who last held the post as Kudat’s SM Pei Tsen School Board chairman, breathed his last about noon at the Kudat District Hospital on March 7 at the age of 82.
