Najib, a pro youth leader – Max

KOTA MARUDU: Proper skills must be instilled upon youths today because they are the nation's future assets, said Kota Marudu member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili

As such, he said various programmes had been specially designed by the government, ranging from educational to motivational subjects, to cater the needs of today's youths and train them as future leaders.

Maximus said all these are possible, thanks to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's soft heart for youth.

“He is pro youth and this is obvious through his participation in programmes involving the young such as Transformasi Negara 50 (TN50), Mobile Outreach Programme (MOP) and Mobile Community Transformation Centre (MCTC),” said Maximus who is also the Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister.

Speaking when launching the Mobile Youth Transformation Vocational (MYTV) - MOP - MCTC Programme here yesterday, he called on youths in the district to take advantage of such events to gain useful skills.

“It is not often that such programmes come knocking on our door, so when that happens, grab the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge.

“The opposition have no such programmes for the youths of today because they are void of creativity and vision of the future. They are just busy trying to unseat the Barisan Nasional government in their craze to take over Putrajaya,” he stressed.

A total of 119 participants took part in the two-day programme where they were exposed to six skills - cosmetic, carpentry, piping, wiring, culinary and agriculture.

Also present were Assistant Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Anita Baranting, Kota Marudu District Officer Arnold Joibi, Fifth Brigade Infantry Commander Brigadier General Datuk Mohd Anuar Rijaluddin, Sabah Security Council director Datuk Rodzi Md Saat and Youth and Sports Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Awang Damit Awang Anak.

Maximus yesterday also unveiled the Native Court election machinery for Matunggong, during a meet-the-people session at Kampung Sampir Darat.

He welcomed the participation from village heads and grassroots leaders in ensuring victory for Barisan Nasional and recapturing Matunggong in the 14th General Elections, urging them to work hard and sincerely.
