Every ethnic group contributes to Sarawak devt — Minister

KUCHING: All ethnic groups play their own contributing roles when it comes to developing Sarawak.

In pointing this out, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said solid foundation of unity among the different races would boost progress.

“Here in Sarawak, everyone is doing business together and there are equal opportunities for everyone – as long as they are willing to work hard.

“With the unity among the races checked, I believe that the state can propel further to greater heights,” he spoke during at the Chinese New Year celebration for the Chinese community from Pantai Damai state constituency at Bandar Baru Samariang here on Saturday night.

Wan Junaidi, who is Santubong MP, also expressed his confidence of the leadership and capability of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in shaping and preparing the state for the digital age.

“I believe that under the leadership of Abang Johari, Sarawak should be able to stand together with other more developed states in Peninsular Malaysia.”

On the roles of the Chinese community in Sarawak, Wan Junaidi viewed them as holding key roles in economic activities and as such, he called upon them to be ready in adapting to changes, in line with the state's digital vision.

“At the same time, we need to understand the needs for our people and also support the present government to ensure continuity in all its development efforts,” said the minister, who attended the event with his wife Datin Seri Feona Wan Junaidi.
