Sabah reign supreme in 100PLUS National Junior Circuit


KUANTAN: Sabah were the toast in Kuantan (Zone A) and Johor conquered Zone C in Putrajaya in the 100PLUS National Junior Badminton Circuit (1st Leg) which ended on Sunday.

The East Malaysian state won six of the 12 titles at stake in the age group tournament - making a clean sweep of all the three singles in boys’ Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12 through Samin Desmond Anthony, Elvestly Daniel Edry and Jun Ket Muhd Arif respective­ly.

Sabah also took the girls’ Under-16 title through top seed Samin Arena Satu while Goh Shuen Tong lived up to her top billing in the Under-14 category.

Shuen Tong completed a double when she partnered Melody Wong Jin Ning for a 21-7, 21-10 win over compatriot­s Rabiatul Hidayah Muhammad-Elaine Wee Yu Ling for the girls’ Under-14 doubles title.

Penang were next best with four titles (girls’ under12 singles and doubles; boys’ under-16 doubles and girls’ under-16 doubles) while Perak won two - the boys’ under-14 and under-12 doubles.

Johor ruled at Presint 11 with five titles with Muhammad Affan Atabek defeating compatriot Muniandy Sharveen 21-14, 20-22, 21-5 for boys’ Under16 title.

The southern state also won the girls’ under-14 singles, the boys’ under16 and under-14 doubles and the under-12 girls’ doubles.

Kuala Lumpur picked up four titles (boys’ singles and doubles in the under12 category; girls’ under-16 singles and girls doubles under-14).

Melaka won three titles - all in the Under-12 categories - the boys’ and girls under-12 singles and the boys doubles.
