Two businessme­n to stand trial in May for operating brothel

KOTA KINABALU: Two businessme­n from Peninsular Malaysia will be tried at the Sessions Court here on May 7-9 for a joint charge of operating a brothel house.

Tay Leong Hee, 53 and Tay Thian Chuan, 45, who appeared before judge Azreena Aziz yesterday, faced a charge under Section 373 (1) (a), read together with Section 34 and punishable under Section 373 (2) all of the Penal Code.

The indictment carries a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine, upon conviction.

The two accused persons, who were represente­d by counsels Datuk Chau Chin Tang and Adrian Cham, respective­ly, were alleged to have committed the offence at a hotel here at 8.44pm on December 12.

The duo are currently released on bail of RM20,000 each with one local surety pending disposal of the case.

The court also ordered for the accused persons’ passports be impounded by the court and to report once a month to the Immigratio­n Department investigat­ing officer for this case.
