Local jailed five years, caned for drug abuse

TAWAU: A 42-year-old local man was sentenced to five years’ jail and one stoke of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for drug abuse.

Magistrate Muhammad Faizal meted out the sentence on Robert bin Kira to a charge under Section 39C(1)(b) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which provides for an imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than seven years, and whipping of not more than three stokes upon conviction.

On September 16, 2017 the accused, while being held for a traffic offence, was ordered to have his urine sample tested and he tested positive for methamphetamine.
