DO praises Sabah Unity Cup Veteran Football Tournament organisers
KOTA KINABALU: Organisers of the Sabah Unity Cup Veteran Football Tournament received praises for their efforts in keeping the tournament alive for almost a decade.
The tournament organised by Kelab Bolasepak Perpaduan Penampang kicked off at the Penampang Stadium on Saturday (March 10).
District officer Luvita Koisun who officiated at the opening ceremony thanked the organisers for continuing their efforts to stage the tournament non-stop for the past nine years.
“This is something the local community here should be proud off because the tournament is centered in Penampang and it has received participation not only from teams in this district but also from Kudat, Pitas, Kota Belud, Kadamaian, Kota Marudu, Tuaran and also some government organisations like PDRM, Prisons Department and the Education Department.
“The untiring effort of the organisers shows that football development is alive in Penampang,” she said.
Luvita also touched on competitions for women and urge the organisers to look into it in view of the good performance of the ladies team in the recent SAGA Cup tournament.
She said this would also help to develop the sport for women and make Penampang a powerhouse in women football.
Towards this end, Luvita urged individuals, government organisations and private sector companies to support event organisers to ensure that good competitive tournaments continue to be staged.
“It is not easy to have this event which has continued for almost a decade and still being organised successfully until now.
“There is definitely a lot of preparation and plenty of challenges especially the shortage of sport facilities like playing fields,” she said.
She thanked organising chairman Edwin Jomiji and his working committee for their efforts and urged the teams to play with full sportsmanship to maintain the good name of the tournament.
For the record, a total of 20 teams are taking part in the Mix Veteran category and another 16 in the Super Veteran.
