Sabah runners-up in Karate Cup C’ship
KOTA KINABALU: It was a golden outing for Sabah exponents at the 9th Silent Knight Karate Cup Championship that was held in Kuala Lumpur, over the weekend.
Sabah Karate Association secretary-general Julian Chin said the state contingent’s achievement was inspiring and that they would continue to polish their athletes for future competitions.
Sabah concluded in second place overall after bagging seven gold, five silver and five bronze medals at the Titiwangsa Stadium on March 10-11.
“Sabah have many good athletes in karate and we need to groom them with proper development programmes so the athletes can improve further to become a national and world champion in the near future,” Julian said.
“I hope they do not stop here and continue to train hard. I would like to thank the parents, coaches and athletes for all their commitment and support. We will train hard again and look forward to more successful outings in future competitions,” he added.
Sabah athletes that won gold were Bibi Aysha, Nur Radhiah Fathiah, Muhammad Akid, Mohd Syafiegrullah, Muhammad Rafiuddin Faiz, Nurhana Nadirah and Ivan Charles.
The silver medallists were Nur Rasyiqah Faridah, Mohd Irfan Shah, Mark Kelvin, Brandon Zimito and Daniel, while the bronze medals were contributed by Shaddad Iqbal, Nathalia Sherawinnie, Syasya Nursyahidah, Muhammad Aiman and Brandon Zimito.
Hayashi-Ha Kuala Lumpur were the overall champions with 16 gold medals, 15 silvers and 36 bronzes, while Bushido Karate Club was third (behind Sabah) with five golds, four silvers and six bronzes.
At least 29 teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Singapore took part in the championship.
