Rhinos Robson Rining is Premier League’s player-of-the-month
KOTA KINABALU: Sabahan Robson Rendy Rining was named the Premier League’s player-ofthe-month for February.
The local goalkeeper was picked by the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia and asiana.my (PFAM-asiana.my).
Rendy, 25, from Beaufort was the only Malaysian footballer among five that were nominated for the award, while the other four were import elites.
They were Gilberto Fortunato
The winner was determined by public votes in the PFAM official website.
Rendy was only a reserve goalkeeper last year but he managed to gain the trust of head coach Jelius Ating, who eventually chose him as the number one custodian for the senior squad, this season.
Rendy conceded only four goals in five of Sabah’s matches. Two from league games and two in the FA Cup clash with Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) here on March 3.
It is undoubtedly due to his good performance that the Rhinos got off to a flying start so far this season.
He was influential in the 1-1 draw (away match) with Felcra FC, pulling off a penalty save in the final minutes of the game.
His performance was also notable in other matches where he made several spectacular saves including in some nervy one-onone situations.
