PH to cite RoS for contempt over Pribumi decision
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan will file an application for leave to cite the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for contempt after the RoS ordered Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) to be dissolved temporarily.
Pakatan lawyer Gobind Singh Deo said this to High Court Justice Azizah Nawawi during the judicial review proceedings to obtain a court order to compel the RoS to respond to its application for registration as a coalition.
Gobind later asked for a postponement to April 11 as he needed to produce the letter from the RoS in court and said that he received the letter dated Thursday (April 5) at 2pm.
The applicants are Pakatan secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah; DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng; PKR secretarygeneral Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Parti Amanah Negara deputy secretary-general Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus; and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh.
They have named the RoS as the respondent in their lawsuit.
In their application, they said the decision by the RoS not to register Pakatan Harapan as a coalition or to respond to Pakatan's most recent letter dated Feb 6 went against the statutory expectations of the applicants and was mala fide, or in bad faith.
They applied for a mandamus order to compel the RoS to register it as a coalition under the Societies Act 1966.
