GOLD COAST: National weightlifter Siti Aisyah Md Rosli was a very happy person yesterday after she broke her own national record in the women’s 90kg category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games here.
The 23-year-old athlete lifted a total of 214kg, finishing fourth overall.
The gold medal was won by Fiji athlete, Eileen Cikamatana with a lift total of 233kg, while the silver went to Australian Kaity Fassina, who lifted a total of 232kg.
The bronze was won by Cameroonian athlete, Clementine Meukeugui Noumbissi with a 226kg lift total.
“I have broken the national record of 90kg (snatch) and 115kg (clean & jerk). I was a little disappointed in the snatch event, I thought I could do better,” she said.
In the final at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre, Siti Aisyah lifted 91kg in the snatch followed by 123kg in clean & jerk.
On her upcoming plans, the athlete from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, said he would continue training for the next tournament in Thailand, and if given the opportunity, would give it a shot at the 2018 Asian Games.
“I will definitely return to the Commonwealth Games after four years with a better target. After all, I am still young,” said the 22year-old. – Bernama
