Weightlifter Siti Aisyah breaks na­tional 90kg record

GOLD COAST: Na­tional weightlifter Siti Aisyah Md Rosli was a very happy per­son yes­ter­day af­ter she broke her own na­tional record in the women’s 90kg cat­e­gory at the 2018 Com­mon­wealth Games here.

The 23-year-old ath­lete lifted a to­tal of 214kg, fin­ish­ing fourth over­all.

The gold medal was won by Fiji ath­lete, Eileen Cika­matana with a lift to­tal of 233kg, while the sil­ver went to Aus­tralian Kaity Fassina, who lifted a to­tal of 232kg.

The bronze was won by Cameroo­nian ath­lete, Cle­men­tine Meukeugui Noumbissi with a 226kg lift to­tal.

“I have bro­ken the na­tional record of 90kg (snatch) and 115kg (clean & jerk). I was a lit­tle dis­ap­pointed in the snatch event, I thought I could do bet­ter,” she said.

In the fi­nal at the Car­rara Sports and Leisure Cen­tre, Siti Aisyah lifted 91kg in the snatch fol­lowed by 123kg in clean & jerk.

On her up­com­ing plans, the ath­lete from Pasir Mas, Ke­lan­tan, said he would con­tinue train­ing for the next tour­na­ment in Thai­land, and if given the op­por­tu­nity, would give it a shot at the 2018 Asian Games.

“I will def­i­nitely re­turn to the Com­mon­wealth Games af­ter four years with a bet­ter tar­get. Af­ter all, I am still young,” said the 22year-old. – Ber­nama
