Cook denies injuring student with cleaver

KOTA KINABALU: A cook claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to injuring a student using a cleaver.

Max Ciddy B. P Dalus, 26, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The indictment carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine or with whipping, upon conviction.

The unrepresen­ted accused had allegedly caused hurt to the victim aged 22 using the sharp weapon outside a restaurant at Plaza 333 in Penampang at 3.30am on January 4.

The court fixed May 23 for remention of the case and granted RM5,000 bail on the accused with two local sureties.

In an unrelated case, four men were each jailed for seven months by the same court for separate charges of consuming syabu.

Osman Kasim, Ishak Abdullah, Dickson Velly Anak Luat and Shahridan Qamily Ladis pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable by a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, upon conviction.

The court also ordered Osman and Ishak to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department after serving their jail terms while Dickson and Shahridan were each ordered to be placed under police supervisio­ns for two years.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng told the court that the four accused persons were arrested after their urine samples tested positive for drug abuse at Karamunsin­g and Penampang police stations on February 11, 3, 2 and 19, respective­ly.
