Fair to help parents decide on international schools for children
KOTA KINABALU: There are over 140 international schools in Malaysia today and this number is predicted to increase over the next few years.
Originally established to provide education to expatriate children, international schools have now become a viable option for parents to consider for their children. Each international school has unique offerings in terms of curricula, fees, facilities and extracurricular activities.
There are also many international schools with boarding facilities in Malaysia. A boarding school education teaches students how to be independent, responsible and disciplined.
At boarding schools, students have the opportunity to join a variety of extracurricular activities and events as well as make lifelong friendships. Boarding schools have excellent facilities and provide a conducive learning environment for their students.
As there are so many international school options available, parents are advised to do as much research as possible before deciding on a school for their child. The Private & International School Fair is the ideal event for parents to connect with leading international schools from all over Malaysia. Parents have the opportunity to speak to school representatives and gather all the necessary information they need on the spot.
Mint Communications launched the Private & International School Fair in 2012 and has organised a series of successful fairs in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor since then. The fairs have grown in terms of number of exhibitors and visitors every year. In 2017, the fairs were launched in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
The 2nd Private & International School Fair in Kuching will be held on April 21 at Pullman Hotel, Kuching, while the fair in Kota Kinabalu will be held on April 22 at Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu.
According to Nickie Yew, cofounder and director of Mint Communications, the fairs in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu will feature providers of preschool, primary and secondary school education, right up to preuniversity programmes. Boarding schools from Peninsula Malaysia will also be present including foreign universities with local campuses that offer foundation programmes.
At the fairs, parents can talk to representatives of international schools, boarding schools and higher education providers that offer pre-university programmes. Many schools participating in the fairs also offer pre-university programmes such as A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
Furthermore, parents who are interested in boarding schools can visit the Prince of Wales Island International School, Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar and Epsom College in Malaysia. Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) and University of Reading Malaysia will also be present at the fairs to promote their foundation programmes.
Other exhibitors include Kinabalu International School, King Henry VIII College, Labuan International School, Shattuck St Mary’s School – Forest City; St Joseph’s International School Kuching; Sunway International School, The International School of Penang (Uplands), Tunku Putra-HELP International School Kuching and EduQuest Education Services among others.
