Golfers group visit Don Bosco orphanage

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Kinabalu Golf Buddies (KGB), a group of golfers from Kota Kinabalu, visited the Don Bosco orphange/children home in Bundu Tuhan on April 8.

They donated RM3,300 cash, household items, clothing and food to the home.

The home has 62 children between the ages of seven years and 18 years. It was built in 1964 by a Mill Hill brother, Benedict Snoeren. Its operating cost and daily maintenance and upkeep is from public donation.

Each year, the golf group engages in community and charity events. Their patron is Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam and president is OKK Datuk William Majimbon.

“Reaching out to those in need is at the heart of all of us. The children deserve our help and care. Our group reaches out to any community in need. We will continue to do so regularly,” Majimbon said in a statement yesterday.

The group’s vice president, Andrew John Maengkom, led the visit, together with its committee members, family members, friends; and student pilots from the Layang Layang Flying Academy, Kota Kinabalu.

Andrew said that the group plans to visit the Home again next year, and it also plans to extend its CSR program to other charities.

Last year, the group, led by Dr Joachim and William, visited the orphanage and donated RM5,000 cash, food and household necessities.
