Twenty-five per cent of candidates to be fielded by Par Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to contest for parliamentary and state seats in Sabah in the 14th general elec on (GE14) comprise new faces, said Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

TAWAU: Twenty-five per cent of candidates to be fielded by the United Sabah Party (PBS) to contest for parliamentary and state seats in Sabah in the 14th general election (GE14) comprise new faces, said the party’s acting president, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

He said the new faces would include “one or two women”.

“Our list of candidates this time around comprise the young, new and experienced, there are women and veterans who can win.

“We also retain the incumbents who are still capable of winning their seats,” he told reporters after launching the fifth edition of “Jelajah Yahijau Sabah” programme here yesterday.

Ongkili, who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, said the PBS election machinery was also prepared to assist other BN component parties in the election.

He expressed confidence of BN winning the Sri Tanjong state seat based on the change of attitude among voters in the constituency who were now more inclined towards BN.

In the last general election, PBS contested in 13 state constituencies and won seven of the seats, comprising Tambunan, Tanjung Aru, Melalap, Kiulu, Kundasang, Labuk and Tandek.

PBS lost in the contest for six seats – Api-Api, Inanam, Tamparuli, Kadamaian, Matunggong and Sri Tanjong.
