Dengue Patrol Carnival at Sandakan school

SANDAKAN: The responsibility to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes is not merely on the shoulders of the Ministry of Health or government alone.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman said each party and society should be equally responsible and cooperative in ensuring that our surroundings are free from the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

“In this regard, awareness is important so that we can both prevent and control infectious diseases from spreading especially in our area because the dengue epidemic is very dangerous.

“The Government has provided substantial allocations to improve the health status of the people in the country. These are all channeled through health programs or through various activities and campaigns aimed at improving people’s health status,” Musa said at the opening ceremony of the Dengue Patrol Carnival of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tinusa, at Padang Bandaran, yesterday.

Musa also congratulated SK Tinusa which has been entrusted by the Sabah State Education Department and Sandakan Education District Office to represent Sandakan District at the State Level Dengue Patrol Competition 2018.

Musa’s speech was delivered by Datuk Zakaria Haji Mohd Edris.

The Dengue Patrol Program is a community program to encourage and empower school pupils and students to fight dengue through dengue prevention activities in surrounding communities such as villages and nearby housing areas.

“It is a proactive step as it involves education and participation of the public together especially with the younger generation in raising public awareness of dengue and public health and wider prevention and protection measures against this disease,” he said.

Musa said the State Government fully supports the pursuit of this program and hopes that it can be extended further in schools throughout Sabah and get support from all parties, especially the local community.
