BALING: A special bank to facilitate housing loans for affordable homes and low-cost homes will be established if the Barisan Nasional (BN) is given the mandate by the people in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said home buyers especially young people would not be subjected to strict conditions that would make it difficult to purchase an affordable house.

“I personally received complaints that it’s difficult for a buyer to get a bank loan because of the inability to repay the loan. With the setting up of the bank…I am confident that the problem faced by the younger generation will be solved,” he told reporters after launching the Baling People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kampung Charok Sikin yesterday.

Also present was Baling Umno division chief Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

The setting up of the special bank was among the initiatives in the BN manifesto for the GE14 announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on April 7. Meanwhile, Noh said currently there were 12 PPR construction projects in Kedah comprising 5,910 units of homes with a total allocation of RM902.5 million.

Of the total, he said 2,494 units of homes had been completed, 1,416 units were under construction and 2,000 units were still in the pipeline.

At the event, Noh also made an announcement on the approval of RM10 million allocation to upgrade Gua Reban lake here as a Herbal Park and RM1.5 million for the implementation of small projects in the district.
