Edward pledges to help obtain funds for two school buildings if re-elected
KOTA KINABALU: PBS vice president Edward Yong Oui Fah pledged to assist SM Stella Maris in the construction of two new SM Stella Maris building blocks if he is re-elected the Tanjong Aru seat in the 14th general election (GE14).
The Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister said BN candidates had yet to be announced but if fielded to defend the Tanjong Aru constituency and was victorious, then tasked to be in charge of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) again, he promised to seek funding for the school.
“If the plan has already been done and submitted to DBKK for approval, bring your application after the general election. If I am still the state assemblyman for the N17 Tanjong Aru constituency, we will meet the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to ask for allocation to build the new school blocks,” he vowed when officiating at the SM Stella Maris open day in Tanjung Aru here, yesterday.
“I hope teachers, parents and all the voters in Tanjung Aru will support the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates to realize this intention in the future,” added Yong.
Yong also made a personal donation of RM10,000 to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG). The contribution, received by the PIBG head, Zahara Ismail, was for carrying out activities to raise funds for the new school building blocks.
According to SM Stella Maris principal Goh Kui Liang, the school needs RM14 million to build two five-storey blocks with 50 rooms, 25 of them student classrooms, on a 1.78 acre of land within the school compound.
On the land now sits two existing blocks housing 14 classrooms that will be demolished to make way for the new building blocks.
He said the school would be able to hold a single morning session for students upon completion of the project.
