Chinese community to benefit from GS-led state govt – Mohd Noor

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Chinese community stands to benefit from an autonomous Gabungan Sabah-led state government.

GS chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansoor said GS struggle of regaining rights to Sabah’s petroleum resources would translate to substantially higher revenues for the state.

“This means a GS government would be able to kick off badly needed projects such as public transport initiatives including a light rail transit for Kota Kinabalu.

“This would improve business environment in the state capital and the Chinese community would be among those to benefit,” he said.

Mohd Noor said a GS-led state government would maximise revenues from the state’s resources.

“We can decide how our revenues are to be used according to the needs of our situation without having to always refer to Malaya,” said the former state finance minister.

He said education was among the areas that a GS-led state government would emphasize.

“We would provide as many as 500 scholarships every year and this would benefit deserving students from lower income backgrounds.

“Sabah’s most valuable resource is our own people. Our youths should have access to education and skills training regardless of their background,” he said.

He said GS’ pledge of introducing a Sabah identity card would also help improve Sabah’s security situation, thus improving the business climate here.

“The issuance of Sabah ICs would weed out those who have managed to obtain fake identity documents all these years.”

He said a GS-led state government would also be business friendly by continuously seeking feedbacks from the business community.

“We recognise that businesses drive the economy and we will provide a nurturing environment for them,” Mohd Noor said.
