Township for young entrepreneurs in KK

-

KOTA KINABALU: A Blue Ocean Entrepreneurs Township (BOET) will be built in Kota Kinabalu for young entrepreneurs to kick start their business.

Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah said BOET would be a hub for youngsters to work, eat and play.

He said the township comprised three components, namely a coworking space with internet access, classroom for training purposes, as well as food and beverage (F&B) outlets and gymnasium.

He said BOET had been launched in Sarawak and he looked forward to seeing the centre in Sabah.

Mohd Irwan said he had visited a site at a historical part in Kota Kinabalu where BOET could be built but the site required further investigation into its ownership.

“It (the site) is very ideal because it is (located at) the centre of town with easy parking and accessible to youngsters by car, motorcycle or bus.

“Once we get the approval for the land, we will start (the project) immediately.

“The allocation is already there... we are waiting for the land to be approved to start the construction,” he said to the media after delivering a keynote address to over 1,000 civil servants at the Sabah Federal Government Administration Complex here yesterday.

Mohd Irwan also promised a fast, speedy construction to get BOET ready within six months.

He said BOET in Kota Kinabalu would be a modern, colourful lowrise building for youngsters.

He said the government would also set up a Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) branch in Sabah with the hopes of producing more young entrepreneurs to drive the economic growth of Sabah.

Mohd Irwan also urged businesses to focus on internetbased economy.
