Private sector encouraged to develop tourist attractions in Tuaran

TUARAN: Caretaker Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor has encouraged the private sector to develop tourist attractions in Tuaran.

Hajiji, who is also the incumbent Sulaman assemblyman, said he would support such tourism development as it would generate income for the community and create new job opportunities for locals.

Additionally, he said locals could also supply their fresh produce to the business premises such as restaurants.

Hajiji said his vision was to see Tuaran being developed as a tourist attraction in Sabah.

He said the district has a lot to offer, including its beautiful beaches, unpolluted mangrove, fireflies, eco-homestay, white water rafting and diverse ethnic groups.

He said Borneo Kellybays alone attracted up to 500 visitors a day.

“I welcome the private sector who owns lands here to develop tourist attractions,” he said after visiting the new Our Land Eco Farm restaurant here.

His next vision for Tuaran, especially Sulaman, was to diversify economic projects and uplift the standard of living of the communities.

Hajiji said many villagers actually kept stingless bees, which could be developed into a small business to improve their incomes.

He said the coastal highway from Tuaran to Kudat would open up more opportunities for industries in the area.

In terms of education, Hajiji said he would ensure the people here gave priority to their children’s education.
