Military camp pledge for Tungku not fulfilled — Warisan
TUNGKU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government should fulfil all its earlier promises before making more promises just to gain the support of the people.
Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) candidate for the Tungku state seat, Assafal P Alian, claimed the BN was only paying lip service when it said that it was striving to improve national security, especially here in Tungku.
Assafal said the BN’s promise to set up a military camp at the Felda Sahabat areas appeared to be an empty promise, as up till today, no construction work had commenced in the area.
“Assurance of security is a very important aspect for the people here as ever since the (Tanduo) intrusion incident in 2013, the areas here have been affected, in terms of development.
“Investments are declining with many investors withdrawing due to lack of confidence on the security assurance of this area,” he said, adding that this also affected the socio-economy of the people here.
Assafal, in a statement yesterday, said that it was a good effort of the BN government to announce the establishment of military camp, but sadly and most disappointingly, it remains just a promise.
He noted that even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak, kept talking about this project during his visit to Sabah, but in reality, not even a single nail could be seen at the construction area, as the area is still planted with oil palm trees and the military assets there do not appear to be properly managed.
“This project should entail the upgrading work of a college that would be used as the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) centre and a RM500 million military camp.
Therefore, he said the BN should give the facts and the actual situation rather than making grand promises just to gain the support of the people.
