Teachers Education Institute team visits Rome

MIRI: The delegates from the Teachers Education Institute (IPG) Tun Abdul Razak Campus took advantage of their recent trip to Italy to promote Sarawak ethnic music to the world.

According to team manager Adibah Ismail, the visit to Rome was a golden opportunity for them not only to introduce their home culture and heritage to nonSarawakians, but also to equip them with the skills, knowledge and positive attitude that would make them better teachers – in line with the ‘National Teachers Education Philosophy’.

“The skills and experience gained from their involvement in this kind of programme will enhance their knowledge which, in turn, will contribute to the community and the country,” Adibah said in a statement yesterday.

The IPG Tun Abdul Razak delegation also included campus director Hamsiah Abdullah Masni, accompanying lecturer Abdul Latiff Poli, as well as teaching trainees Andreas Alexander, Nursyahira Mohamad Narudin and Romario Ansam Rungah.

According to Adibah, the students had the chance to showcase their talents to the audience at the Malaysian Embassy in Rome, as well as to take part in ‘Festival dell’Oriente’ there.

“The showcase at the embassy coincided with the ‘Malaysia Traditional Food Sale Day’ where there was a wide variety of Malaysian dishes on sale, like ‘nasi lemak’, ‘sate’, ‘rendang’ and traditional cakes.

“The event was made merrier with the presence of the Malaysian Ambassador to the Vatican, Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok as well as Malaysians living and working in Rome.
