Sponsorship boost for Sabah shuttlers in National Junior Circuit
KOTA KINABALU: The National Junior Circuit Second Legbound Sabah shuttlers received a sponsorship boost ahead of the tournament to be held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas from May 2-6.
The managing director of WKW Eramaju Sdn Bhd, Hj Wan Nur Muhammad Wan Mustafa, has sponsored t-shirts for Sabah’s junior badminton players.
This will be the second year that WKW Eramaju Sdn Bhd is sponsoring Sabah players and SBA officials.
“The association is very grateful. We are indeed very proud and happy to receive such generous sponsorship,” said Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) secretary general Steve Jay in a statement to the press yesterday.
Hj Wan Nur Muhammad, on the other hand, hoped that Sabah will one day produce a player of Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s calibre to make the nation proud.
Meanwhile, the team managers’ meeting will be held at the sports complex on May 1 at 5pm, to be followed by the umpires briefing at 6pm.
Zone A consists of the five states Perlis, Penang, Perak, Pahang and Sabah, where shuttlers will play in the under-12, under-14 and under-16 age categories.
They will compete in order to qualify for the National Grand Prix Finals to be held in Negeri Sembilan from July 4-8.
“With home ground advantage, we earnestly hope that Sabah players will take this opportunity to excel during the second leg of the championships.
“We need badminton fans and enthusiasts to come cheer for Sabah players in capturing more titles throughout this week,” added Steve.
Matches will commence on May 2 at 8.30am for the first session and 3pm for the second session and similarly on May 3 and 4.
The quarterfinals will start on Friday at 9, semi-finals on Saturday morning and the finals and victory ceremony on Sunday morning.
