Sabah were forced to se le for a 1-1 stalemate a er failing to capitalise on home ground advantage against Felda United FC in the Youth Cup League Group A match at the Penampang Stadium yesterday.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah were forced to settle for a 11 stalemate after failing to capitalise on home ground advantage against Felda United FC in the Youth Cup League Group A match at the Penampang Stadium near here, yesterday.
The host team tried to get the early goal but had to wait until after the hour mark as both sides failed to break the deadlock at half time.
It wasn’t until the 65th minute that the host team took the lead thanks to Mohd Hizaz Lokman who netted from inside the box.
The striker read it well to smash home a cross from Leonardo Lisua, leaving Felda keeper Mohd Faris Danieal well beaten.
But the advantage was shortlived as Felda struck back to stem the tide not more than fifteen minutes later.
Sabah custodian Azrine Abdul Rahman came off his line to make a brave clearance as a tussle ensued in front of goal.
But the clearance landed at the feet of Muhammad Aqmar Alias, who sent the ball into the net before Azrine could return to the goal line.
Team manager Azman Mastar said a victory would have been justified as his squad created more chances at goal.
“But such is the game of football where possession and control does not always guarantee victory. The players did their best and we are forced to accept the result. We failed to get the full points but at least we still got one point,” he said.
Azman hoped his charges would continue to strive to better themselves so that Sabah could win more points in up-coming fixtures.
The squad, coached by Mohd Aiyyman Shah John Abdullah will travel away to face SSMP-AMD Cougars U16 on Sunday (May 6).
