Goh working like rep even before election — Salleh

-

KOTA KINABALU: Caretaker Multimedia and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said has called on voters in Kapayan and Luyang and the parliamentary seat of Penampang to cast their vote wisely.

Speaking to the crowd at Lido Square on Tuesday night, Salleh, who is the BN candidate for Kota Belud parliamentary seat, reminded them to vote for the individual who can help to resolve their issues.

“I am here to give my support to the candidates. I have known Datuk Francis Goh for so long and I know he is close to the rakyat and serves them.

“Other than choosing the party we want to govern the state, we also choose an elected representative, and, in this case, one who has been serving the rakyat even before he was nominated as a candidate for Kapayan,” Salleh said.

“We need a wakil rakyat that is close to the government to bring up issues that need to be resolved. If we give him the mandate to be an elected representative, he will be able to do more for you,” said Salleh.

According to him, BN has contested and won in 13 elections because it is a party that wants stability, unity and harmony among the rakyat.

“We also want to bring in development, we want the elected representative to work for the rakyat and to ensure the future of the country. You are lucky because Datuk Francis has been working like a wakil rakyat.

“There is no reason why he should not be given an opportunity to serve as a wakil rakyat. I noticed that some elected representatives from the opposition in Peninsular Malaysia changed constituencies a few times. How to serve the people when they do not know the constituents? They only want to win but not to help the people,” he claimed, stressing that an elected representative’s job is more than just debating in the state assembly or parliament. They have to be accessible to the rakyat.

“I urge you to give your mandate to Goh so that he can be your elected representative. The same goes for Dr. Pamela Yong in Luyang and Mandela Malakun in Penampang. Politics is not about arguing with each other. If that is the case a lot of world problems cannot be resolved. Politics is about development,” he said.

Salleh is felt that the BN will again be the government because the rakyat knows that it has their interest at heart.

“We must give our young leaders like Mandela the opportunity to represent the rakyat in Parliament. He has asked for faster internet speed and if I am appointed as the minister, I will try my best to see that this is a reality,” he said, adding that Sabahans must be united and be strong so that people will respect us.
