SAPP’s election campaign smooth – Yong

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee disclosed that the party’s election campaign has been going on smoothly and incident-free, other than the smear campaign against the party on social media.

He said the police had introduced many new guidelines, including the requirement of police permit for walkabouts.

Yong said SAPP candidates had also tried to avoid confrontation with candidates of other parties when both happened to be at the same place.

“So far, other than the social media, (our election campaign) is incident-free. I think our message is getting across,” he said when asked during a press conference here yesterday.

There was, however, a bit of confusion as to where the candidates’ posters could be displayed, he said.

Yong said SAPP had been very strict on not putting up its party logo in constituencies where it did not have candidates.

“In Penampang, we distribute the STAR logo. In Tanjung Aru, we distribute the Harapan Rakyat logo. But I saw BN Kapayan candidate’s poster in Luyang, and the posters of Warisan’s Tanjong Aru candidate in Luyang and Kapayan,” he said.

Yong said the party would not make a fuss out of the issue.

“It’s just that the SPR (Election Commission) has rules which should be complied with. So far, we have complied with all the rules,” he said.
