SGCC elections: Khoo standing down, Shiak and Ng all set to lock horns

-

KOTA KINABALU: It will be a battle between Shiak Vui Ming who served the club for seven years and 2-term past president Willie Ng, in the elections for the Sabah Golf and Country Club president’s post 20182019.

While last year’s elections saw Datuk Peter Khoo defeating Shiak by a comfortable margin, this year’s election will again see keen contests between Shiak and Willie.

Shiak has been a club member for more than 25 years and served in various principal positions, while Willie is a relatively new member at the club and served as president for 2 terms, 2012 and 2013.

With the current president Khoo not seeking re-election, he is throwing his support to his one-time rival, citing that Shiak has persevered and is genuine and committed in serving the club with pledges to continue with the current committee’s effort in taking the club out of troubled water.

In a statement to the press yesterday, Khoo explained that he is very impressed with Shiak’s New Dawn Team’s manifesto, especially Shiak’s long and short-term plans in continuing with the current plan to steer the club out of its financial trouble.

Shiak’s running mates, Ian Yong for Captain, and Peter Raymond Wong for Deputy President, Jenny Ong for Secretary and Francis Shim for Treasurer also came out with well thought out plans for their respective roles.

Shiak, who is a banker and very active in corporate and finance advisory roles in recent years, was unsuccessful in previous elections but he perseveres saying “I am returning to stand for president because I genuinely want to serve the club”.

“We have to keep bringing young blood into the golf club membership and management. We have to keep our focus on golf and develop junior golf, as well as promoting and supporting other healthy activities for the benefits of the members and their families” said Shiak

Meanwhile, Willie, has, in one of the club functions, pledged that he will be promoting goodwill at the club and that he will donate money to promote junior golf if he is elected.

Election is set on May 3, 2018 (Thursday) starting at 7.00 pm. Estimated 800 members out of the 2,500 members are expected to converge to the club to select their president and general committee for next term.
