Najib confident BN will retain govt

PENAMPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that Barisan Nasional (BN) will retain Putrajaya by winning the 14th general election (GE14) this Wednesday, because of the support of the people throughout the country.

He said this confidence was due to the support of the people, which he described as “phenomenal’, including from Sabah and Sarawak.

“I have every confidence..., of the support of the people of Sabah and Sarawak as well as in the other states.

“We will definitely win. Be sure that BN at the federal level will be a true friend of the people of Sabah,” he said at a gathering with the people here last night.

Also present were Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and acting president of UPKO, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as the BN candidate for the Penampang parliamentary seat Caeser Mandela Malakun, candidate for the Moyog state seat Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin and candidate for the Kapayan state seat, Datuk Francis Goh.

Speaking to a 5,000-strong crowd that packed the Hongkod Koisaan hall, Najib, who is BN chairman, appealed to Sabahans to give the coalition a strong mandate on May 9.

“We want to build a more vibrant and better future and we will do this if we get the mandate,” he said, adding he could not do what he had planned alone.

“We have started on our transformation journey but we still have a long way to go. I want to form a strong government on the national level so that we can help Sabahans. So please give me Parliament Penampang as we have a very good team that can redeem our loss in the 13th general election,” said Najib.

The sea of blue in the hall, he said gives him confidence that BN will wrestle the Penampang parliamentary seat as well as the Moyog and Kapayan state seats from the opposition.

“We lost 3-0 in the last election, this time we will win 3-0,” he said to the thunderous applause from those present.

Najib urged Sabahans to not make a mistake as their future lies with BN. The rakyat, he pointed out are the ones who have the final say as to who is the most suitable to be the Prime Minister for the next five years, said Najib adding that he has big plans for Sabah and he listens to the people here.

According to him, the one from the opposition who wants to be Prime Minister may not treat Sabahans fairly.

“He has not visited Sabah during his campaign for the election ... why is that? Do you want him to be the Prime Minister? If not then reject him and support BN.

“Unlike me, he does not spare a thought for Sabah and its people. He does not care for Sabahans like I do and this is why I brought much development to the state.

“When he is Prime Minister, he will abandon Sabah,” said Najib adding,” how can a 93-year-old man lead Malaysia into the future when he wants to be Prime Minister for only two years?

“What happens after that? Who will succeed him?” he questioned and pointed out that in a democratic system, a leader is elected for a fiveyear term.

He also took a pot shot at the opposition which he said do not like each other. They have been hurling insults at each other and have demonised Mahathir for 22 years.

“This is just a political farce to cheat the rakyat and they will ‘main buyuk’ (cheat),” said Najib.

Today, Najib is scheduled to open the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Keningau and then attend a meeting with the people in the parliamentary constituency of Beaufort. He is also scheduled to attend a meet-the-people session in the parliamentary constituency of Kota Marudu before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
