Likas Sports Complex car park not suitable for concerts — SAPP

-

KOTA KINABALU: The city needs a proper venue for outdoor concerts instead of allowing such loud events at the Likas Sports Complex car park, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) secretarygeneral Datuk Richard Yong said.

He said these concerts have been source of inconvenience for nearby housing area residents such as Taman Tuaran and Taman Orchid Villa.

“People living around the Likas Sports Complex will have to put up with the loud music until midnight,” Richard said on Monday.

“This is just not fair to them,” said Richard who is the SAPP candidate for Likas.

He said as far as he knew, City Hall had banned loud outdoor concerts but still gave permits for such events to be held.

“A Gabungan Sabah-led state government would tackle this problem effectively by finding a suitable site for such events, somewhere that is not within the proximity of housing areas,” he added.

Meanwhile, Richard said a stinking problem in Likas would be solved soon after it was highlighted by him recently.

He said workers had started to repair gates at the Likas flood mitigation pond that would allow stagnant drainage water to flow out into the sea.

“I am glad the authorities are being responsive to this problem which has been plaguing Likas residents for months,” he said.

Last week, Richard said the stench from the Likas flood mitigation pond had been plaguing residents nearby.

He said the stench was a cause of concern as it indicated that the water not only contained bacteria and germs but also toxic substances.

Richard had called on the authorities such the City Hall and the Drainage and Irrigation Department to immediately take measures to trace the sources of the sewerage and tackle the problem.
