Give BN candidate chance to prove he can do better — LDP

-

SANDAKAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) Sandakan chairman Datuk Chin Su Phin yesterday urged the voters to give Datuk Lim Ming Hoo an opportunity to prove his capability and commitment to serve the people and bring developments to Sandakan in the next five years.

He said the voters had given Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Stephen Wong five years’ time to be the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sandakan.

It is high time that the people elect Lim (BN-LDP) and give him the chance to show how he could contribute to the betterment of the constituency, he said.

Chin, who is also the deputy president of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), believed that BN would still be given fresh mandate to govern the country even though the 14th General Election (GE14) was going to be a tough challenge for the coalition.

Despite talks of political tsunami in social media, he said the selection of candidates and election strategies by opposition camp had put BN in a favourable position.

“For instance, the opposition parties have struggled to embrace a common ideology to fight against BN.

“On the contrary, the component parties of BN are strongly united and this gives us great strength in facing GE14,” he said in a statement.

Chin urged the Sandakan voters, especially the Chinese, to support LDP candidates Lim and Lim Kai Min for the Sandakan parliamentary and Karamunting state seats respectively.

He believed that the people of Sandakan would have realized by now that Wong had not contributed to the development of the constituency in any way, except to criticize the BN government in the Parliament and to the media.

“What tangible contribution has Stephen Wong done for Sandakan?”

On the other hand, Chin pointed out that Lim has never ceased to serve and contribute to churches, temples, schools and associations in Sandakan without any development funds since BN and LDP had lost the parliamentary seat.

“BN and LDP had done much more for Sandakan than Wong in the past five years.”

He said Lim would have had sufficient development allocation to bring progress to Sandakan if the people gave him the mandate in GE14.

Chin is confident that Lim was capable of providing efficient service and propel the economy growth of Sandakan as the MP.

He said the opposition parties were incapable of toppling BN in Sabah due to their contradictory stand and ideologies.

“The opposition may wrest a few more seats in GE14, but not enough to form a new government in Sabah.”

Hence, Chin called on the rakyat, especially the Chinese voters, to think carefully before casting their votes.

“There are only eight Chinese state seats in Sabah.

“This is a golden opportunity for Sabahan Chinese voters.

“If BN’s Chinese candidates could win all the eight seats, we shall have a stronger say in pursuing our interests and things that matter to us.”

He pointed out that the Chinese voters have had high hopes for DAP candidates in the last general election.

“But the reality has shown that DAP’s elected representatives for Luyang, Likas and Kapayan have switched allegiance to other parties after they won the seats.

“What have the opposition state assemblymen done for the people in the State Legislative Assembly in the past five years?

“They were incapable of debating with BN’s assemblymen, nor secured any benefits for the people.”

Chin said the people should consider the quality of DAP candidates.

He said the Likas assemblyman who won under the DAP ticket had betrayed the people who voted for him by joining another opposition party.

At the same time, he said DAP had behaved very ungentlemanly on social media.

He alleged that DAP even impersonated MCA members on Facebook to humiliate the party and criticized DAP for resorting to such approach to cheat people of their votes.

For example, he said the opposition had recently uploaded a photo of empty chairs in a BN gathering and claimed that the event received poor response.

“The photo was actually taken after the event had ended, after the attendees had left.

“The opposition was clearly lying to the people!”

He continued to say that a viral voice message on WhatsApp of a women who claimed to be from Petaling Jaya had claimed that BN has come up with a new law requiring voters to go to ‘saluran’ before casting their votes on polling day. The woman claimed that failure to do so could result in their votes being considered as spoilt votes.

“This is obviously a fabricated lie. The opposition has resorted to dirty tactics to confuse the voters to fuel their own personal political agenda.”

He said the DAP today has deviated from its moral standards.

“I urge voters to step forward and support BN candidates on May 9.

“The victory of BN Chinese candidates will enhance our representation in the Parliament and State Legislative Assembly.”

If the BN candidates could secure the coalition’s victory by winning the eight Chinese-majority and mixed constituencies, the Chinese community would play the prominent role as kingmakers.

Chin once again urged Chinese voters to think thoroughly and not be misled by the opposition.
