MCMC targets complete addresses for 200,000 remote premises by 2020

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) targets to ensure that 200,000 remote premises receive complete addresses by 2020.

This is to increase the efficiency of the postal services through the ‘Address for All’ project with the use of smart technology.

MCMC Communications and Digital Ecosystem chief officer, Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus said the project, carried out in collaboration with Pos Malaysia, was aimed at easing the delivery of packages and facilitating e-commerce (edagang).

He said the initiatives such as the national postal services transformation, upgrading of the 1Malaysia Internet Centres (PI1M) and building of telecommunications infrastructure across the country were expected to narrow the rural-urban digital divide and contribute to economic growth.

“All these initiatives are geared towards long-term national development. Hopefully, the people will make best use of the opportunities provided for a better future,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He noted that MCMC had also established cooperation with Pos Malaysia in providing Registered Post Agent services at selected 1Malaysia Internet Centres under Phase 3 of the Sabah and Sarawak Postal Transformation Plan (PTPSS).

“Through this project, the rural community, especially the entrepreneurs, have access to postal services and this helps in managing logistics for efficient delivery of products,” he said. Bernama
