Pakatan captures Putrajaya – Tun M

-

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who led the Pakatan Harapan charge in the 14th general election (GE14), claimed that his coalition of parties has won at least a simple majority to form the federal government.

The PH chairman said this was based on the unofficial results of Wednesday’s polls for which the results of the 222 parliamentary seats as well as the 504 state seats at stake have yet to be announced in their entirety.

“We have won at least 112 parliamentary seats based on the unofficial results,” he told a packed press conference hours after the conclusion of the hotly-contested election.

Dr Mahathir, who was Malaysia’s fourth prime minister for 22 years before stepping down in 2003, was critical of what he described as a ‘deliberate’ delay on the part of the Election Commission (EC) in announcing the full results.

On PH’s victory, the 92-year-old Dr Mahathir said: “This is not fake news… they (Barisan Nasional) are left far behind. The likelihood is that they would not be forming the government.”

Dr Mahathir contended that his coalition comprising PKR, DAP, PPBM and Amanah had managed to capture or retain at least six states - Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Kedah - based on the unofficial results. He was also asked whether he would seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, following this latest development,

“I would like to see the King after what has happened but the question is whether he would like to see me. Without (the EC) releasing the (full election) results, I can’t go to see the King.”
