Troubles averted in Kingfisher, P’pang

-

PENAMPANG: Police did a good job of preventing potential troubles at two polling stations yesterday, namely Kingfisher Community Hall and Penampang Cultural Centre.

PKR and Parti Warisan Sabah supporters allegedly tried to stop a vehicle from entering the Kingfisher Community Hall after the ballot counting ended at 11.30pm.

The incident happened when a vehicle, believed to belong to a resident at Kingfisher, was going back home and was turning into the junction next to the community hall where the counting for P. 171 Sepanggar, N. 12 Karambunai and N. 13 Inanam was being held.

Police were forced to intervene to prevent supporters from taking matters into their own hands.

The vehicle then left the area by taking an alternative route.

Police also cordoned off Jalan Raja Udang at Kingfisher to prevent PKR and Parti Warisan Sabah supporters from storming into the Kingfisher Community Hall where the votes counting for P. 171 Sepanggar, N. 12 Karambunai and N. 13 Inanam was being held last night.

Both Parti Warisan Sabah candidates Mohd Aziz Jamman and Azhar Matussin, and PKR candidates, Kenny Chua Teck Ho, were said to be leading the vote count.

Meanwhile in PENAMPANG, a riot almost broke out outside the Penampang Cultural Centre last night.

Hardcore supporters of various parties tried to stop Election Commission vehicles, from entering the gates into the Penampang Cultural Centre.

The supporters were said to be suspecting that the vehicles were bringing in additional ballot boxes to help a losing candidate.

However, security authorities managed to neutralize the situation by explaining that those boxes were from SK Kepayan.
