Raymond fails to retain Tanjong Papat state seat

SANDAKAN: Democratic Action Party (DAP) has won all three seats under P.186 Sandakan parliament­ary, which includes the Sandakan federal seat, N.45 Elopura state seat and N.46 Tanjong Papat state seat.

DAP Sabah chairman Stephen Wong Tien Fatt successful­ly defended his seat with 10,098 majority votes after he garnered 19,094 votes against Datuk Lim Ming Hoo from Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) under Barisan Nasional (BN), with 8,996 votes.

Calvin Chong Ket Kiun won with a majority of 6,832 votes for Elopura, with 12,163 votes against Parti Gerakan’s (BN) Chan Tzun Hei, who garnered 5,340 votes.

For N.46 Tanjong Papat seat, Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah failed to defend the seat after he lost 4,002 to 5,818 against Frankie Poon who won by a majority of 1,816 votes.

In the last election, Frankie Poon was defeated by Raymond Tan who garnered a majority of 1,522.

The third candidate, independen­t Jufazli Shi Ahmad garnered 533 votes.

Sandakan parliament­ary has a total of 39,777 registered voters with a 72.1 per cent turnout and 502 spoilt votes, while Elopura with 25,285 registered voters had 71.6 per cent turnout and with 256 ballots rejected. Tanjong Papat with 14,492 registered voters had a 72.9 per cent turnout and had 196 rejected votes.

The result was announced by returning officer Haj Awang Hamsan Supain, who is also the deputy president of Sandakan Municipal Council.
