BN wiped out in Penang as PH sweeps almost all state, parliamentary seats
GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has retained Penang for the third term by winning 39 out of 40 state seats, effectively wiping out Barisan Nasional’s (BN) presence in the state, the Malay Mail reported.
According to unofficial results as at 12.20am, PAS won the Penaga state seat in a straight fight with BN after PH’s candidate was disqualified on Nomination Day.
BN only managed to retain the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat but lost all of its remaining state and parliamentary seats.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng defended both the Bagan parliamentary and Air Putih state seats by garnering 80 per cent of the total votes.
Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow won the Tanjong parliamentary and defended his Padang Kota state seat by garnering above 70 per cent of the total votes.
DAP once again won all of the 19 state and seven parliamentary state seats it contested in Penang while its fellow PH partners, PKR, Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) won the remaining 20 state and five parliamentary seats.
Lim said PH did not only win in Penang but nationwide.
“The people have finally shown their power after 60 years, there is finally change,” he told supporters and reporters at the Penang DAP vote-tallying centre in City Bayview Hotel here.
He also advised all PH supporters to go home and wait for the official results at home.
