BN loses Terengganu, Negri Sembilan – EC

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has retained Pahang and Perlis but lost Terengganu and Negri Sembilan, the Election Commission (EC) announced yesterday.

EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said PKR candidates won 20 of Negri Sembilan’s 36 state seats while BN took 16.

Outgoing mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan won the first seat of the general election uncontested on nomination day.

In Terengganu, PAS won 18 state seats, while BN won eight. Pakatan Harapan parties contesting under PKR won zero seats.

Kemaman incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek from Barisan Nasional among the biggest casualties.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang successfully retained his Marang parliamentary seat with a majority of more than 20,000.

Incumbent Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman successfully managed to defend his Seberang Takir seat.

For Kelantan, PAS retained the state with 28 seats, while BN has seven. PH parties have won none so far.

In Pahang, BN won 22 seats, PAS eight seats while PH parties won none.

For Perlis, BN won ten seats. PAS won two seats while PH parties contesting under PKR won three.

Earlier, Mohd Hashim denied that returning officers refused to sign Form 14 to declare the winners, saying that it was mere speculation.

“Don’t say the EC is getting in the way or does not want to announce it, as you can see, we are still waiting,” he said.

He said the EC needed time to calculate the official election results for the 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats nationwide.

Mohd Hashim said that he was aware that people are “anxious” for the results, but the commission was still waiting for results from different states and polling centres.

“Please give us a little time for the official results. What has been made viral is not official, perhaps it is from party agents who are on duty at polling centres,” he told a news conference.

“There are no tricks. The moment we get the results for the 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats, we will announce it,” he added.

He also said that the total voter turnout yesterday was at 76 per cent.
