PH makes clean sweep of KK seats By Chok Sim Yee

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has once again made a clean sweep of the the P.172 Kota Kinabalu parliament­ary and three state seats in the 14th general election (GE14).

Democratic Action Party (DAP) won the Kota Kinabalu parliament­ary, N.14 Likas and N.16 Luyang state seats, while Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Christina Liew was re-elected as N.15 Api-Api state seats.

Returning officer (RO) Robert Lipon announced the results at 12.35am at the counting centre at Dewan Maksak Likas here today, May 10.

Former Sri Tanjong assemblyma­n Chan Foong Hin (DAP) won the Kota Kinabalu parliament­ary seat by an astounding 24,086 majority. Chan secured 31,632 votes and defeated Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate Dr Joseph Lee Han Kyun (7,546 votes) and Sabah Progressiv­e Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee (3,132 votes).

A total of 563 spoilt votes were recorded while the turnout for Kota Kinabalu parliament­ary constituen­cy was 76.4 per cent out of the total 56,220 registered voters.

Meanwhile, newcomer Tan Lee Fatt (DAP) won the threecorne­red fight for Likas state seat with 9,163 votes and a majority of 7,902 votes. His BN opponent Datuk Chin Shu Ying from Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), who contested for the seat the second time, and Datuk Richard Yong We Kong (SAPP) garnered 1,261 and 673 votes respective­ly.

Likas recorded 74.2 per cent turnout out of the 15,126 registered voters and 84 spoilt votes.

Another new candidate, Phoong Jin Zhe (DAP) also secured victory for the Luyang state seat with an impressive 12,408 majority. He polled 14,237 votes against Dr Pamela Yong (BN-MCA) with 1,829 votes and Gee Tien Siong (SAPP) with 807 votes.

A total of 21,815 voters were registered in Luyang and 78.1 per cent of them have voted in GE14. The number of spoilt votes were 112.

On the other hand, incumbent Api-Api assemblywo­man Christina Liew successful­ly defended her seat with 8,174 votes against BN’s candidate Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) by a majority of 2,954 votes. Yee polled 5,220 votes, while Lim Kat Chung (SAPP), Land Lip Fong (Anak Negeri) and Dr Chan Chee Ching (independen­t) obtained 598, 244 and 94 votes respective­ly.

There are 19,279 registered voters in Api-Api and 76.4 per cent of them turned up to vote, whereas the spoilt vote numbered at 378.
