Six unable to vote, told IC already used

- By Elton Gomes

KOTA KINABALU: Six voters were unable to cast their votes yesterday as their identification had allegedly been used by someone else.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datum Ramli Din said police received six reports alleging that the victims' identification document had been used by another person.

"We received six reports, namely three in Tawau and one each in Papar, Lahad Datu and Kota Kinabalu," he said yesterday.

Ramli said police investigation revealed the victims were unable to exercise their democratic right as they were told by the Election Commission agent that their name had been crossed out, indicating that they had already cast their votes.

Ramli said police will investigate the case under Section 3(1) L of the Election Commission Act 1957.

He was speaking to the media after inspecting the polling centre at SRJK (C) Chung Hwa, the polling centre for P.172 Kota Kinabalu and N.15 Api-Api.

Also present were his deputy, Datuk Razarudin Husain, state CID chief SAC Datuk Salehhudin Abdul Rahman and city police chief ACP M. Chandra.

Meanwhile, Ramli said polling at SRJK (C) Chung Hwa went smoothly without any incident.

"There were 14 polling stations here and by 3pm, 12 stations have been closed.

"There were about 68.2 percent of voters who came to cast their votes and we expect an increase until closing time, which is at 5pm," he disclosed.

No untoward incident was reported at any of the polling centres throughout the state and police were on standby to monitor the situation and security right up until the announcement of results.
