Seiko shines bright during Baselworld 2018
KOTA KINABALU: Internationally reknowned watch brand Seiko shone during Baselworld 2018, offering the best of its brand at its pavilion this year.
“You will see that the Grand Seiko collection is wider than ever, with more sports and more formal watches alongside the traditional Grand Seiko designs,” said Shinji Hattori, chairman and chief executive officer of Seiko.
“The highlight in the Grand Seiko wing is an important series that celebrates the twentieth anniversary of our 9S automatic caliber, including an entirely new automatic caliber for the women.
“The Seiko wing invites you into the world of Prospex, our leading sports watch collection. Here you will see a series of new diver’s watches, for both professional and recreational use, that might be our strongest ever.”
The Grand Seiko and Seiko collections showcased the watckmaker’s commitment to technological innovation as well as its respect for the traditions of their brands.
“I take great pride in our company’s unbroken history of advancement in all forms of watchmaking and you will see this pride expressed as ‘Seiko. Since 1881’ in all our future communication,” Hattori added.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this caliber, the Grand Seiko team created a series of three limited edition timepieces, each of which, in different ways, pays homage to the high precision that caliber 9S achieves.
Meanwhile, six new Prospex were created to honor two landmark Seiko Diver’s watches.
Since 1965, Seiko has continuously pushed back the boundaries in diver’s watch technology.
Today, two landmarks in this illustrious history are honored in new Prospex creations.
In 1968, Seiko announced Japan’s first hi-beat diver’s and, ten years later, the world’s first quartz saturation diver’s watch was created.
Now, these two important watches are remembered in commemorative creations that bring the latest in Seiko’s high technology watchmaking to those who work in and enjoy the underwater world.
Another grand creation is the Presage collection made in 2016, which showcased two central aspects of the character of Seiko: its respect for traditional Japanese craftsmanship and its long-established skill in mechanical watchmaking.
The 2018 Presage collection provides a vivid demonstration of Seiko’s ability to explore new avenues of development in both these areas.
Moving on, the Astron executive series was the first Astron designed specifically for those who want a versatile watch suitable for any occasion or activity. Today, the executive series is expanded with the creation of a new sports design, made for people who want a watch that works equally well in the office and the great outdoors.
Tobelaunched in June 2018, the executive sports series offers all the functions of Seiko’s unique GPS Solar technology but with a new level of durability, legibility and water resistance.
On the range of sports watches, Seiko also unveiled a tennis inspired mechanical watch for Novak’s Seiko collection.
Following on from the success of the Kinetic Perpetual Premier watch that was designed last year for Novak to wear on formal occasions, the 2018 Premier creation for Novak returns to the tennis court.
It is the first automatic watch we have ever created for Novak. It incorporates a specially finished automatic caliber, housed in the classic Premier case.
The markers, dial and strap have a powerful sports feel that, perhaps surprisingly, works in perfect harmony with the elegance of the case.
Last but not least is the Credor Spring Drive Eichi. The original Eichi, created in 2008, and its successor Eichi II, 2014, won high praise worldwide for their simplicity of design, the exquisite finishing of the movements, the innovative torque return system and, most of all, for the handpainted, pure white porcelain dials.
Today, ten years after Eichi first appeared, a new version of Eichi II brings all these attributes together in a new 18k rose gold interpretation.
It will be available in August at selected Seiko Boutiques and retail partners worldwide.
