All BN Chinese MPs, assemblymen lose in Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: The opposition has wrested all the parliamentary and state seats contested by Chinese-based component parties under Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th general election (GE14) in Sabah.

Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) have won one parliamentary seat and eight state seats from Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), MCA and Gerakan candidates.

This includes LDP president Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang who was unsuccessful in seeking his third term as the Tanjong Kapor assemblyman against Warisan's candidate Chan Chen Bin, while party vice president Datuk Chin Shu Ying also lost to DAP candidate Tan Lee Fatt as he vied for the Likas state seat for the second time.

The three new candidates fielded by LDP have also lost their seats.

The party's vice president Datuk Lim Ming Hoo was defeated by DAP Sabah chairman Stephen Wong Tien Fatt in a oneto-one fight for the Sandakan parliamentary seat.

LDP candidates Lim Kai Min and Lim Ting Kai were unsuccessful in their bid to win the Karamunting and Merotai state seats from Warisan candidates Hiew Vun Zin and Sarifuddin Hata respectively.

Meanwhile, Gerakan vice president Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah has lost the Tanjong Papat state seat to Poon Ming Fung from DAP.

DAP candidate Chong Ket Kiun has also wrested the Elopura state seat from Chan Tzun Hei (BNGerakan).

As for MCA, its State Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Francis Goh's attempt to recapture the Kapayan state seat has failed when DAP candidate Jannie Lasimbang won the seat, while Dr Pamela Yong, who stood in the Luyang state constituency, was defeated by DAP's new candidate Phoong Jin Zhe.

Apart from the three Chinesebased parties, the Chinese candidates fielded by the multiracial Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) also succumbed to the opposition sentiment.

PBS deputy president Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai was twice defeated by incumbent Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), while the party's vice president Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah failed to defend his Tanjong Aru state seat against Warisan vice president Junz Wong.

Christina also wrested the Tawau parliamentary seat from Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching.

In the Inanam state constituency, Datuk Johnny Goh has lost the seat to PKR's new candidate Kenny Chua, whereas PBS' Batu Sapi parliamentary candidate Datuk Linda Tsen was unable to defend the seat against Datuk Liew Vui Keong from Warisan.

Meanwhile, DAP candidate Jimmy Wong Sze Phin defeated Lo Su Fui from PBS in the Sri Tanjong state constituency.

This indicates that BN has lost all its Chinese members of parliament and assemblymen in Sabah.
