PCS campaign overshadowed by battle cry for regime change — Bumburing

-

KOTA KINABALU: The election result marked a very historical event in the country for Umno/BN which had been ruling the country for over half a century.

It is a culmination of the long quest of the people of Malaysia for regime change due to the massive mismanagement and corruption in the country, said Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing.

Bumburing, who was Tamparuli assemblyman, tried to defend the seat in the 14th general election but lost to Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Jahid Jahim.

In a statement yesterday, he said the people had made a choice and it had to be respected.

“Parti Cinta Sabah participated in the election on a Kadazan Dusun and Anak Negeri platform,” he said.

Bumburing claimed that they failed to win a seat because they were sandwiched between the massive money politics by Peninsular Malaysia and the wave of change generated by the political tsunami there.

“Our campaign for the need of KDMR/Anak Negeri platform was overshadowed by the battle cry for regime change. Because PCS is not aligned to any grouping, we were seen as a secondary vehicle for change. Therefore there is a clear split in the votes.”

Bumburing said while he respected the right of the voters, he was dismayed that there were people willing to sacrifice the future for an instant ringgit during the election.

“We maintain our position in supporting the policy of Pakatan Harapan. We will continue to struggle for the right of the KDM/Anak Negeri, especially in regard , among others, to land ownership, native laws and culture.

“We now have a new federal government and we wait eagerly for the implementation of their promises to Sabah which is in regard to Malaysian Agreement 1963, GST, cabotage policy and equal development,” said Bumburing.
